Support for eligible students travelling from regional WA
If you need to travel away from home to attend training at Marr Mooditj Training, you may be eligible for Away From Base (AFB) support. This assistance can cover reasonable travel, accommodation and meal costs while you attend an approved training block or placement.
AFB support is available to eligible country students undertaking approved courses. It is subject to eligibility requirements and the Away From Base guidelines, so please speak with our Travel and Accommodation Officer before making travel plans.
To access Away From Base support, you must:
Accommodation and meal assistance is only payable when your training requires an overnight stay away from your normal place of residence. Other conditions apply to the length of study blocks and placements.
Once your eligibility has been confirmed, designated Marr Mooditj Training staff will organise approved travel, accommodation and meal arrangements in line with the AFB guidelines. Arrangements are based on the most cost-effective suitable option.
Transport is provided between Marr Mooditj Training’s nominated accommodation and the training campus before and after class each day. If you choose to drive your own car, you will need to cover that cost yourself. If you miss the scheduled transport from your accommodation, you are responsible for making your own way to class.
You will receive SMS reminders about your training block dates, travel bookings and accommodation details. Please keep your contact information up to date so we can reach you.
Away From Base support applies to approved arrangements during your training. You may need to pay for costs outside those arrangements.
Speak with the Travel and Accommodation Officer before changing your plans so you understand what assistance applies.
If you receive Away From Base support, you are expected to read the Country Student Handbook and follow the rules of your nominated accommodation. This includes keeping the accommodation clean, behaving appropriately and not using alcohol or drugs at the accommodation.
Please contact the Travel and Accommodation Officer about the assistance you need at least one week before your study block, and again before the block ends. Let them know as soon as possible if your travel will be missed or cancelled, or if your circumstances or contact details change.
If accommodation rules are not followed, your accommodation may be cancelled. Missing training days may also affect your AFB payment. If you are away from classes or placement for more than two days, Marr Mooditj Training may ask you to return home to recover, if it is safe to do so, and may request a medical certificate.
If you’re coming from regional WA, contact Marr Mooditj Training’s Travel and Accommodation Officer to discuss your eligibility, the evidence you need to provide and the arrangements for your upcoming training block.
